My Mom, the graduate!
My mom's graduation ceremony was today, it was great to see her going across the stage in her cap and gown.
I can't really express how proud I was watching her walk across the stage. She's accomplished so much with so few chances going her way that it's amazing to me that she's done it all. I get a lot of credit for always making it through scrapes with minimal damage as though it's some sort of magical power. I'm lucky like that, but it's usually situations I get myself into. My mother has had crap flung at her from every direction and sometimes it seems like the patron saint of taking difficulty dumps on peoples lives has made her a treasured toilet, but she always comes out on the other side with nothing but thoughts of the people that depend on her. My sisters and I have always leaned on her heavily for everything from support in our everyday lives to... well... SUPPORTING us through our everyday lives.
The fact of the matter is she has spent the majority of her life doing everything she can for us. From 16 to 46 she has put herself a very distant second and her family and friends first. And while taking care of everyone else and working a full time job she managed to go back and complete her schooling, bringing home a shiny diploma to put on the wall next to pictures of the deadbeats she has been supporting forever.
It's a proud moment for me, for her daughters, for my grandparents who came from Arizona for the ceremony, and for her husband who has turned out to be a huge blessing for our family in his own right, the man my mother has always deserved who took his sweet time getting here.
I love you mom, and congratulations.
