Katrina - TEH DAY AFTERS!

Well the hurricane is past now and the power has returned to my part of the city. Baton Rouge didn't get his as hard as expected and thankfully neither did New Orleans. N.O. is still a mess, and will still take a damn long time to clean up but it's still there. The last minute shift in the eye of the storm seems to have made all the difference.

The better part of my day was spent chasing down the various parts of my neighbors roof. I now have a large pile of metal about half the height of me and a nice pile of shingles I collected after the storm. The fun!

I haven't had a lot of time to watch the news since it came on so I'm not all up to date on the damage but it seems we got off a lot easier than we could have, and for that I'm thankful. I'll be calling Red Cross tomorrow to see where they need me and hopefully things get better here fast.

hugs I’m glad that everything’s okay. I was worried about you. I don’t know which was scarrier… a hurricane outside or a house full of Smiths inside. :p

I think I’ve checked two or three times earlier today to see your post and now you have. Thank christ you guys are ok. If you haven’t seen the news yet, there are an estimated 55 fatalities in LA and those are just the early counts. :frown:

I am glad to hear you all are in one piece. My friend who grew up in Ocean Springs, MS a block away from the beach? Not so much. The entire first floor of her childhood home is demolished. In her words, “Windows, doors, walls, everything - they’re all gone [not to mention pictures, furniture, kitchen appliances, piano, etc.].”

It should be noted that the first floor is 12 feet above ground.

But they are alive and I guess that’s what counts the most.

See Now, if I would have moved in down there with ya, I could be having fun chasing shingles too…

Good to know that you’re okay and all that mushy girlies stuff though.
