Google Desktop Search - Final
Google yesterday unveiled the final version of their desktop search software and it now is even better. GDS now indexes Netscape/Thunderbird emails where it formerly only worked with outlook based clients. It also allows full text searching on PDF files, as well as searches on metatags in music, images, and video.
Another interesting feature would be the plugins which allow you to push the search even further. With plugins already available for Trillian, mIRC, and ebook/help files as well.
Google has addressed some of the concerns of security by defaulting to not indexing password protected materials, although the ability is there if you enable it. There is a lot of talk about big brother being able to snoop through files and what not but honestly someone who can hack into your computers doesn't need Google's desktop tool to find what they want.
You can download the tool from: http://desktop.google.com/

I still don’t understand why it’s better than using the windows search option. :p
