Intel = Laserific

Last week a friend and I were talking about Intels stock prices, and how AMD was putting a crush on them with new chips, etc.. I just sort of grunted, as this isn’t really my bailiwick. He went on to say how he expected Intel to go downhill fast with AMD hitting on new technology to bring up clockspeed so quickly. With AMD the leader in overclocking and being cheaper, he surmised, how long could it possibly be until AMD ends up on top of the heap?

I shrugged noncommittally and said that it was my experience that Intel always seems to find some way of jumping back on top…

Today I was reading through news sites when I came across the following “Intel Claims First Single-chip Silicon Laser Based On SOI". Reading through it it seems that Intel has discovered a way to make a silicon based laser that is inexpensive and would have the capability by the end of the decade to make computer components that would move data along at the speed of light..

I need to start betting on my hunches.
